Give me a small exercise
Give your attention one place to go. If your mind wanders, come back to that place once.
Before you start: Pick one short line on the screen you’re already using. You don’t need to fetch anything, change your breathing or check your body.
- Stay in your current position, if it’s safe to pause.
Keep essential care and safety actions in place. You don’t have to move, look around the room, or change your breathing.
- Choose one line of text already in front of you.
Use this line if choosing is hard. There is no need to look for another thing or describe how you feel.
- Give the line your attention until you reach its end.
If your thoughts go elsewhere, notice that and come back to the same line once. There is no need to push the thoughts away.
- Stop after one return to the line.
You can finish even if you don’t feel different. The task was to give your attention a place to return to.
This is a short adaptation of a skill in the WHO stress management guide.
Start by giving your attention one place to go. There’s nothing to answer first.

How to use Bridge
Start with what’s happening, tell Bridge what an exercise needs to respect, then choose one thing to try. The screenshots below follow one example: sound feels overwhelming and leaving the space isn’t possible.
Want to skip the questions? On the home screen, choose Give me a small exercise. Bridge opens a short exercise right away. You can stop whenever you like.
-
Start with what you notice
Pick the card closest to what’s happening. You don’t need to find an emotion word. I can’t name what I feel is a choice too. For a more specific situation, open Find a more specific situation and search for a word such as “sleep” or “reply”.
In this example, choose Everything feels like too much. -
Tell Bridge what would help
Under What would help right now?, choose the closest option. Some choices bring up a follow-up question. If you’re unsure, choose the “not sure” option or leave the question as it is.
Here, I want less light, sound, or clutter brings up another question. Choose Sound. Use these answers now skips the remaining questions. If you have a limit you want Bridge to respect, scroll down and choose it first.
-
Add any limits or preferences
What is happening around you? asks about your surroundings, such as whether you’re alone, around other people, or at work or school. More needs and limits is where you can rule out things like moving, talking, leaving the space, or contacting someone. Select as many statements as fit.
Choose how much effort feels possible, or leave it as I am not sure how much effort I can manage. When you’re ready, choose See matching exercises.
Here, select I cannot leave this space so the exercise can be done where you are. -
Choose a matching exercise
Open the Matching exercises dropdown, pick an option, then choose Open exercise. If only one exercise matches, Bridge opens it for you. When your goal needs something unavailable, such as another person, Bridge offers a related, low-effort exercise you can use with your current limits. Your original answers stay selected, and the introduction explains what the exercise can offer in that moment.
In this example, choose Put one noisy tab on mute and open it. -
Try the steps at your own pace
Start with Before you start. It explains what to have in front of you and what the exercise asks you to do. Then work through the numbered steps. All steps are on the same page. You can finish when gives you a clear stopping point.
This exercise starts by checking which optional sound you can reduce and what sounds you need to keep available. Use Choose another exercise to return to your matches when there are several. Use Change answers to adjust your filters, or Choose a different situation to start somewhere else. Expand Evidence and limits to see where the exercise comes from.
Make the page easier to use
Open Display in the menu and turn on Quieter colours if you prefer less visual input. Some browsers also show Read these steps aloud when a local voice is available and you haven’t ruled out audio.
Need urgent help? Get immediate support takes you straight to UK support options. You don’t have to go through the questions first.
About Bridge & its limits
Bridge is part of Britallica’s mental health work. It’s a free tool for finding one practical thing to try in a difficult everyday moment.
What Bridge does
Bridge suggests short exercises based on the options you choose. You do not need an account or a diagnosis. You can skip an exercise or stop whenever you like.
What Bridge can’t do
Bridge does not assess symptoms, diagnose a condition, give medical advice or provide treatment. It does not replace advice or care from a GP, therapist or other qualified health professional. If you’re worried about your mental health, or difficulties are getting in the way of daily life, speak to a qualified professional. Do not delay getting help or change a treatment plan because of something you read here.
Some exercises draw on published research or clinical guidance. Bridge’s exercises and matching have not been clinically tested as a service. You can read the source and its limits below each exercise.
When you need help now
Nobody monitors your answers. Bridge can’t tell whether you need urgent help or contact anyone for you. Use Get immediate support for UK services. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999.
Privacy & browser storage
You do not need an account. Your answers and exercise matching stay in your browser. Bridge does not send your answers to Britallica or your web host.

Hosting, contact and outside links
Bridge does not install visitor analytics or advertising trackers. Hostinger, the web host, automatically records technical requests for website operation and troubleshooting. Its access logs can include the time, IP address, page or file requested, device and browser information, approximate country, request size and response time. These records do not contain your exercise answers, which stay in your browser. Bridge’s app code runs in your browser and does not use PHP to process your answers.

Hostinger’s dashboard shows up to seven days of website access logs and HTTP error records. This describes how far back the dashboard shows records.
Bridge is hosted by Hostinger in North Carolina, United States. Hostinger lists Boston, United States, as the backup location. Hostinger’s content delivery network (CDN) is enabled. It can handle website requests, including IP addresses, on servers in different countries to deliver and protect the site. Technical data may therefore be handled outside the UK. Your exercise answers are not sent to the host or CDN.
